National Office Staff

The following staff members make up the National Office located in Independence, MO. 


Christy Byrns; Webmaster 

Serves as Webmaster to the Fraternity Website.  Responsible for on-site training and provides technical support at the National Office as well as to members and volunteers.  Provides support and assistance for biennial National Convention and National Volunteer Conference.  Provides support to the National Alumni and Volunteer Development Committee.

Stacey Couch; Director of Communications 

The Director of Communications is responsible for implementing the organization’s Style Guide and Graphic Standards in all publications both printed and electronic.  This newly created position will develop the quarterly newsletter, assist with development and membership materials, and revise supporting brochures.  This person will work with the volunteers who serve on the Marketing Committee to build brand identity.   Additionally, the Director of Communications will:

  • Write, edit and evaluate our day to day communication pieces
  • Write and distribute all media releases.
  • Assist the Executive Director and the Director of Annual Giving in coordinating all marketing and public relations. 
  • Proof read all external collateral material
  • Work with webmaster to maximize effectiveness of website and other electronic communications
  • Work well with outside vendors.

Matt Hewitt; Mail Clerk

Responsible for filling and shipping all supply and merchandise orders; tracking inventory of supplies and printed material; keeping informed regarding postal, UPS, and Federal Express regulations; and maintaining records of shipments.

Prepares and assembles materials for various APO LEADS workshops, National Volunteer Conference, National Conventions, and the Sectional Resource Manual. Assembles various extension kits for distribution.

Responsible for stocking and maintaining the mail room; and overseeing the postage machine, copier and fax machine.

Heather Lehman; Field Representative 

Heather pledged in the fall of 1998 at the Gamma Phi chapter at Western Michigan University.  She held many positions in her chapter including President, Treasurer, and Co-Chair for a Section conference.  Upon graduating, Heather volunteered at the Section level serving on staff and serving as Section Chair.  Heather received her degree in Secondary Education, and was a middle school science teacher.  She has aspirations of returning to graduate school to work in Student Affairs.

This position was created within the National Office in which a staff member will travel to the chapters for the purpose of:

  • Getting to know the students and their environment, on their campuses
  • Working with chapter leaders to promote opportunities for growth.
  • Help chapters develop programs that will aid in the retention of their existing members.
  • Assisting the chapter to provide leadership opportunities for their members.
  • Create an individualized plan for building a healthier chapter or extension group.

The Field Representative works closely with the Regional Directors, Regional Staff and Section Chairs.  She is based out of the National Office in Independence, Missouri and travels extensively (about 80%) during the school year.

Robert London

; National Executive Director

The National Executive Director is the chief administrative officer of the Fraternity. His responsibility encompasses all administrative and organizational aspects of the Fraternity, and he reports directly to the National President and the National Board of Directors.

Additionally, he is:

  • Ex-officio, non-voting secretary of the National Board of Directors and its Executive Committee and of the Endowment Fund Trustees.
  • General editor of all Fraternity publications.
  • The Registered Agent of Alpha Phi Omega, Incorporated, and the keeper of its official records, seal and minutes.

Our National Executive Director is Robert London. His professional background includes ten years as Vice President of Operations for one of the largest men's social fraternities in North America, five years of sales experience, and consulting with start-up companies. As a freshman in college Bob started a chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha on the Bowling Green campus. He loves sports and is active in coaching and mentoring young children.

Judy Mitchell; Director of Chapter Services

In addition to our National Executive Director, Alpha Phi Omega's professional staff includes a Director of Chapter Services. Her responsibilities include working with the Membership & Extension program and supervising service to the Chapters. She reports to the National Executive Director.

Our current Director of Chapter Services is Judy Mitchell. She has been with the Fraternity since February 1972.

Judy attended Kansas City Community College, 1963-64. Prior to joining Alpha Phi Omega's national staff, she was manager of the Multi-Peril Department at Thomas McGee and Sons, Commercial Insurance Agents.

Judy is an Honorary Member of Iota Chapter, a member of the American Business Women's Association, and KCSAE (Kansas City Society of Association Executives.) She was also a Camp Fire Leader, PTA President, past president of her parish's Women's Circle and a Member of the parish's long-range Planning Committee.

She lives in Blue Springs, Missouri, with her husband, Mike. Judy has three children, Christine, Melinda, and Jon.

Karen Parks; Accounting & Development Assistant

Responsible for assisting the National Accountant and Director of Annual Giving.   Records and maintains all fundraising information and updating information in the membership database.  Assists with financial aspects for Chapters, Sections, Regions and the National Fraternity.

Doris Polus;

Receptionist/Administrative Assistant


Responsible updating membership information/addresses in membership database. Responsible for updating and maintaining fraternity lists (Board, Endowment, Section Chairs, Committee's etc.). Maintaining current information on fraternity volunteers and staff.Prepares and assists with mailings to chapters, board, sections, etc.; receiving, opening, and stamping daily mail; assists in the preparation of the National Chapter Bulletin.  Assists the National Executive Director.

Duties also include support of the National Leadership Development Committee in the tracking and preparation of APO LEADS certificates.

Julie Regos; Chapter Administrative Assistant



Responsible for providing secretarial support to the Director of Chapter Services; preparation of all chapter Charter Reaffirmations and rosters; and mailing of Charter Reaffirmations to chapters and volunteer staffs.

Provides support to the National Service/Communication Committee, including preparation of materials for National Service Week and mailings; preparation of materials for the Youth Service Grant and mailings; and preparation of materials for the John Mack Scholarship/Grant and mailings; and preparation of The Service Flash.

Updates and maintains chapter and advisor and member databases from information received on the Charter Reaffirmation, including addresses, members, school data (opening/closing and pledge class dates), and daily changes received affecting all databases.

Prepares Joseph Scanlon National Certificate of Merit for deserving chapters; prepares listing of chapter anniversaries; updates and maintains all extension documents at the direction of the Director of Chapter Services; and copies and distributes monthly membership report, inventory of chapter activity, and extension reports to volunteers.

Linda Secrist; Director of Finance

Alpha Phi Omega's professional staff also includes an Accountant. Her responsibilities encompass all financial aspects for Chapters, Sections, Regions and the National Fraternity. She reports to the National Executive Director.

Linda Secrist currently holds this position. She has been with the Fraternity since April 1996. A Graduate of the University of Missouri in Kansas City, she earned an A.A. in 1989 and a B.S. in Accounting in 1992. Linda was recognized as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in 1994. She was a Brownie, Girl Scout, and Girl Scout Leader.

Linda is an Honorary Member of Alpha Eta Chapter. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants. She is also a member of the American Business Women's Association (Cass County Charter Chapter) where she has held the offices of President, Treasurer and Program Co-Chair. She is a member of Beta Sigma Phi Social Sorority (Chi Nu Chapter) and has held the offices of President, Treasurer, and Recording Secretary. She currently is a member of the Pleasant Hill United Way board of directors and has served on the budget committee and the nominating committee.

Linda lives in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, with her husband, Dennis. Her family also includes four children, Stephen, Brian, Justin, and Amber.

Marilyn Tischinski; National Registrar

Responsible for inputting new members in the membership database; and processing shingles and ID cards for Pledge Members, Active Members, Honorary Members, Advisors, and Life Members.

Records and prepares certificates for H. Roe Bartle recipients; checks chapter rosters to verify membership; writes to chapters regarding any discrepancies on rosters; and updates member information as necessary.
