Scouting and Youth Services 

The National Scouting and Youth Services Committee is a standing national committee of Alpha Phi Omega. 

The primary function of the National Scouting and Youth Services Committee is to act in an advisory role to the National Service and Communication Program Director, the National President, and the National Board of Directors on relations between the Fraternity and youth service organizations.

Committee members are appointed by the National President and include the Committee Chair, a representative of the Boy Scouts of America and other members-at-large nominated by the chair.  Many of the geographic regions within the Fraternity are also represented on the committee by Regional Scouting Representatives.

As service to youth is a primary focus within the overall service program of Alpha Phi Omega, development and maintenance of strong relationships between the Fraternity and the various national youth service organizations with which we work is critical to achieving our overall mission.  Currently, the Fraternity maintains formal relationships with the Boy Scouts of America and Camp FireUSA.  Work is also underway to develop a relationship with the Girl Scouts of the USA and with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.  In addition, the committee maintains an ongoing effort to identify other youth service organizations where the Fraternity may wish to investigate formation of a partnership.

Announcements: 

Throughout the year the National Scouting and Youth Services Committee works in conjunction with other national committees of the Fraternity, and with youth service organizations, to promote various youth service related activities and programs.  Current program announcements include the following:

Program Support:

The committee is also active throughout the year in working to provide assistance to chapters across the Fraternity in the development and expansion of their program of service within the Scouting and youth service areas.  To promote more extensive interaction between Fraternity chapters and various youth service organizations, the National Scouting and Youth Services Committee has developed a number of helpful guides and related information.

Awards and Recognitions:

The National Scouting and Youth Services Committee works throughout the year to recognize chapters and individuals who provide exemplary service within the youth service arena.  This recognition is through promotion of the National Awards related to Scouting and youth service. 

The committee also promotes the recognition of youth and adults within the various youth service organizations who achieve a high level of recognition.  This recognition, often presented by an area chapter or alumni association, is made through presentation of the Scouting Recognition Certificate.
