Alpha Phi Omega has designated the first week of November as, "National Service Week," to unify Chapters with a national theme and to inspire expansion of chapter service programs. During this week every chapter is encouraged to carry out a new, high profile service project related to the program of emphasis and involving other chapters and the community. A brief history of National Service Week can be found here (PDF).
At the 2006 National Convention, the legislative body selected, "Lending a Helping Hand: Serving Individuals with Disabilities," as the Program of Emphasis for National Service Weeks in 2007 and 2008. For 2007, National Service Week is November 4-10, and the theme is, "Serving Children with Disabilities." For 2008, National Service Week is November 2-8, and the theme is, "Serving Adults with Disabilities."
